Glaze Firing
Monday, 08 November 2010 14:55

Firing glazed pieces has only a couple of differences from greenware firing. You are generally firing a couple of cones cooler and need to stilt items that have glaze of the bottom. Stilts have small prongs for preventing glaze from sticking to the shelf and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Work with your supplier to determine the kinds of stilts to best suit your needs.

Never allow glaze items to come into contact with each other during firing. Always keep your kiln shelves coated with an adequate coating of kiln wash so any drips of glaze can be popped off with ease.
